Turn this photo into a black-and-white actor-style headshot. Keep my face, features and expression exactly the same.

Dramatic soft light from one side, deep shadows, sharp eyes, subtle skin texture, a plain [DARK GREY] backdrop, cropped from the shoulders up, classic casting portrait quality.

What you will get

A black-and-white casting-style headshot with dramatic side light, deep shadows, sharp eyes and real skin texture on a dark grey backdrop, cropped from the shoulders up.

Why it works

Casting headshots must look exactly like you, so face, features and expression stay the same. Soft side light, deep shadows and sharp eyes give the classic black and white look. A plain backdrop and a shoulders-up crop match what casting directors expect.

Common mistake

The face looks airbrushed and no longer like you.

Fix: Keep “subtle skin texture” and add “no skin smoothing, keep my facial features exactly the same”. Heavy retouching makes people look like a different person.

Also watch for

The light is flat and even, not dramatic. Say which side the light comes from, for example “from the left, with the right side of the face falling into shadow”.
The photo turns grainy or too dark to see the eyes. Add “keep the eyes bright and sharp, with a small catchlight”. Use a clear, front-facing starting photo with a neutral expression.

Try a variation: warm sepia tone

Replace “black-and-white” with “warm sepia-toned monochrome” and ask for a slightly lighter grey backdrop. It gives a classic studio-portrait feel.

Still not right? Reply with this

Keep my face and expression exactly the same. Make the shadows a little softer so the eyes are clearly visible, and keep the dark grey backdrop.
