Karwa Chauth falls on Thursday 29 October 2026, according to India TV's festival guide. Moonrise times differ from city to city, so check a local panchang such as Drik Panchang for yours.

Many people now make a festive AI portrait to share on the day, or a couple photo for the evening. Tools like Gemini and ChatGPT can do this from a normal phone photo. The prompts below keep your face the same and get the details right: the thali, the sieve, the mehendi and the moonlight.

Before you start

Use a clear, front-facing photo in daylight. Sunglasses, heavy filters and group shots make it harder to keep your face accurate.
Say "keep my face exactly the same" first. Put it at the start of the prompt, not the end.
Leave text out. AI tools still misspell words. Add "Happy Karwa Chauth" in a photo editor or on your status afterwards.
Describe real objects. "A decorated brass thali with a small diya, sindoor, sweets and a sieve" gives better results than "Karwa Chauth items".

The festive saree portrait

This is the one most people want. It's based on the realistic saree photoshoot prompt:

Swap the saree for a lehenga or a suit if that's what you wear. Name the colour and fabric. "Maroon velvet" and "red organza" look very different.

Mehendi close-up

Hands with fresh mehendi are one of the most shared Karwa Chauth pictures. Upload a photo of your hands and use the mehendi hands prompt, or this festive version:

Using the hands in this photo, add intricate [BRIDAL / ARABIC / MINIMAL] mehendi in deep brown henna on both palms and fingers. Keep the shape and skin tone of the hands exactly the same.

If the pattern looks too perfect, add "slightly uneven, hand-drawn lines". Real mehendi is never machine-neat.

Two things help here. First, say who holds what, or the AI may put the sieve in the wrong hands. Second, ask for the moon "low in the sky". A moon directly overhead is hard to fit into a portrait.

Traditional look without a new outfit

Don't want to change clothes? Keep the outfit and change only the setting and light:

Make a short greeting video

Once you have a portrait you like, take it into a video tool such as Kling or Veo with the festival greeting video prompt. Change the greeting line to your own words, or remove it and add text afterwards. A 5 to 6 second clip is enough for WhatsApp status and Instagram Stories.

Fixing common problems

The face looks different. Start again with a clearer photo, and put "keep her face exactly the same" as the very first line.

The jewellery is too heavy. Name fewer pieces, or say "simple, light jewellery".

The sieve looks strange. Describe it: "a round metal sieve with a fine mesh, decorated with a red thread".

Everything is too orange. Ask for "a deep blue evening sky with warm light only on the faces".
