Pongal 2027: date and what to write

Pongal, or Thai Pongal, is the Tamil harvest festival, celebrated over four days in mid-January: Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal. In 2027 the main day falls on 14 or 15 January depending on the calendar (Drik Panchang lists Friday 15 January for New Delhi). The countdown on this page uses 14 January.

Families boil fresh rice and milk in a new clay pot, and the moment it boils over is the call of "Pongalo Pongal", a sign of plenty. Wishes go out on the morning of the main day, often with a photo of the kolam.

How to make a Pongal card with your name

1. Check the date. Pongal is on Thursday 14 or Friday 15 January 2027. The countdown above shows the days left.
2. Type your names. Add who it is for, your family name if the card is from the whole family, and pick the greeting language (English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam).
3. Choose a design. Use the festival picture, add your own photo in a round frame, or pick the Mandala design. Pick Post, Story or Square for the size.
4. Download or share. On a phone, Share card sends the picture to WhatsApp. On a computer, Download card saves it. Copy card link gives a link that opens the same card.
