One-on-one agenda beyond status updates
This prompt creates a reusable 30-minute agenda for a manager meeting with a person in a role you name, focused on more than task updates.
Create a reusable 30-minute one-on-one agenda for a manager meeting with a [ROLE, e.g. junior designer]. Include sections for their priorities, blockers, feedback both ways, growth and career, and wellbeing. Add three sample questions for each section, plus five questions I can rotate in when we have nothing urgent to discuss.
Let the other person fill in the first item; it changes the tone of the whole meeting.
Get a better result
A reusable 30-minute agenda with sections for their priorities, blockers, two-way feedback, growth and wellbeing, three sample questions in each, and five spare questions for quiet weeks.
The meeting turns into a status report.
Fix: Put status updates in a shared doc before the call and ask for an agenda that starts with what the other person wants to talk about.
- Questions feel too personal for a new report. Mention how long you have worked together and ask for lighter wellbeing questions for the first months.
- Feedback only flows one way. Ask for two questions that invite feedback on you as a manager, such as “What should I stop doing?”, and use them monthly.
Change it to a meeting with someone two levels below you, focused on team health, process and what their manager may not see.
Add a short notes section at the end of the agenda with a date, three prompts and a place to track growth goals over time.
