What you will get

A slow motion macro of thick golden honey drizzling over a stack of fluffy pancakes topped with your fruit, forming glossy ribbons and pooling on the plate, with warm window backlight and a soft pouring sound.

Why it works

A slow, thick pour is one of the most satisfying motions in food video, and backlight is the trick that makes honey glow. The fruit adds colour on top of the golden tones. Shallow depth of field keeps the drizzle sharp and the kitchen soft, so nothing distracts from the pour.

Common mistake

The honey pours like water.

Fix: Ask for a thick, slow ribbon that folds on itself, as the tip says, with a thin thread trailing from the dipper.

Also watch for
  • The pancakes look flat and dry. Ask for a tall stack of fluffy pancakes with soft edges and a little steam.
  • The honey looks dark brown. Keep the backlight from a window behind, which makes the honey glow golden.
Try a variation: use maple syrup

Ask for darker maple syrup poured over waffles with a pat of butter melting on top, same backlight and slow motion.

Still not right? Add this and run it again

a thick slow ribbon that folds on itself, a thin thread trailing from the dipper, tall fluffy pancakes, golden window light from behind
