Turn a good prompt into a reusable template
This prompt turns a prompt that worked into a reusable template with placeholders for the parts that change, an explanation of how to fill each one and an example.
Here is a prompt that worked well for me: [PASTE PROMPT] Turn it into a reusable template with [PLACEHOLDERS] for the parts that change, a short explanation of how to fill each one, an example of a filled version and two variations for different situations.
Keep a shared library of templates for your team to reuse and improve.
Get a better result
A reusable template made from your best prompt, with [PLACEHOLDERS] for the parts that change, a short note on how to fill each one, a filled-in example and two variations for other situations.
Too many things become placeholders and the template loses its character.
Fix: Keep the wording and structure that made the prompt work. Turn only the details that really change, such as names, numbers and topic, into blanks.
- The example is hard to compare with the original. Ask the AI to run the filled example and compare the output with your first result. If it is weaker, ask which line was lost.
- The template sits in a chat and gets lost. Follow the tip: save it in a shared file or notes page with a clear title and the date you last tested it.
Add “and a three-point checklist to run through before sending the filled prompt”. It helps teammates use the template the same way.
Reduce the placeholders to the five most important ones and show the template again with one line of guidance under each.
