Use "soft atmospheric perspective" to get layered mountains that feel deep.

What you will get

A painterly wide scene of a monastery on a cliff edge with prayer flags in the wind, tiny figures on a stone path and layer after layer of misty peaks fading into a soft sunrise or pink dusk.

Why it works

Matte painting is a film term for a wide, layered background, and it tells the model to build depth in planes. The tiny monks give the scene scale, and the prayer flags add colour and movement to a mostly soft palette. The two light choices change the mood from fresh and hopeful to warm and quiet.

Common mistake

The mountains look flat, like one wall.

Fix: Keep “atmospheric perspective”, as the tip says, and ask for each farther ridge to be paler and bluer than the one in front.

Also watch for

The monks are large and the building small. Ask for the figures to be tiny, about the height of a door, so the cliff and peaks feel huge.
The monastery looks like a castle. Describe whitewashed walls, small windows and flat roofs with flags, so it reads as a mountain monastery, not a fortress.

Try a variation: make it winter

Ask for fresh snow on the roofs and path, a pale blue morning sky and frost on the prayer flags.

Still not right? Add this and run it again

each farther ridge paler and bluer than the one in front, tiny monks no taller than a doorway, clear sky at the top for a title
