Diwali gift ideas with ChatGPT: prompts for every budget, plus the card and the wrapping

Short answerTell the AI who the gift is for, what they like, your budget in rupees and when you need it, and ask for a short list with a reason for each. Then use the same chat to write the gift message and plan the hamper. Diwali 2026 is on Sunday 8 November, with Dhanteras on Friday 6 November.

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, with Dhanteras on Friday 6 November. That leaves about a month to sort out gifts for family, friends, the office and the people who help at home. AI won't know your Mausi's taste, but it is very good at turning "something nice under ₹1,500" into a list worth looking at. Here are prompts that do that well.

The one prompt that does most of the work

Gift prompts fail when they're vague. "Diwali gift ideas" gets you dry fruits and candles. Add four details: who, what they like, budget and when you need it.

prompt
Suggest 8 Diwali gift ideas for my father-in-law.
About him: 62, retired teacher, loves gardening and old Hindi songs,
doesn't eat sweets because of diabetes.
Budget: ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 each.
I need to buy them in India by 5 November.
For each idea, give one line on why it suits him and where I'd usually find it
(local market, online, or a speciality shop). No brand names.

Our gift ideas prompt is a fill-in-the-blanks version of this.

Prompts for different people

For a whole family list at once:

prompt
I'm buying Diwali gifts for 7 people. Total budget ₹12,000.
1. Mum, 55, loves cooking
2. Dad, 60, follows cricket
3. Sister, 24, works in design, likes skincare
4. Brother-in-law, 30, into fitness
5. Nephew, 6
6. Our house help, Lakshmi
7. My manager
Split the budget sensibly, suggest one gift per person with the price,
and keep the total under ₹12,000. Put it in a table.

For people who help at home. Many families give cash, clothes or a sweet box. Ask for something practical and respectful:

prompt
Suggest 5 thoughtful Diwali gifts for our building's security guard
and our cook, about ₹800 each. Practical and respectful, things they'd
actually use. Also suggest a short note in simple Hindi to go with it.

For colleagues and clients:

prompt
I run a small design studio with 15 clients. Suggest 5 Diwali corporate gift ideas,
₹700 to ₹1,200 each, that don't look generic, are fine for people of any faith,
and can be shipped across India. Include one eco-friendly option.

Write the gift message too

A short handwritten-style note makes even a simple gift feel personal.

prompt
Write 3 short Diwali gift notes for my best friend from college.
We've known each other 10 years and joke a lot.
Warm but not cheesy, under 40 words each, one in Hinglish.

For clients or the office, the thank-you note prompt gives a more formal version.

Make the hamper and greeting look good

If you're making hampers at home or selling them, a good picture helps. Ask an image model like Gemini or ChatGPT for a styled photo:

prompt
A realistic photo of a Diwali gift hamper in a woven basket, wrapped in red and gold cloth,
with small jars of dry fruits, a brass diya and marigold flowers,
on a wooden table in warm evening light. No text, no logos.

Selling hampers? The Diwali sale banner prompt and our guide to Diwali sale posters cover the shop side. For greetings, the WhatsApp status greeting prompt and the Diwali family portrait prompt are popular every year.

Common mistakes

No budget. Without a number, AI suggests things that are either too cheap or far too expensive.

Forgetting health or diet. Mention diabetes, allergies or being vegan, or you'll get a list of sweets.

Trusting prices and stock. AI prices are rough guesses. Check the shop before you decide.

Where to go from here
