AI comic book and superhero prompts: make yourself the hero of the panel

Short answerEdit a real photo for a comic panel that still looks like you, or design a wholly original superhero character instead of asking for an existing one. Keep speech bubbles under 8 words so the lettering stays readable.

Two different things get called "AI superhero prompts", and it's worth knowing which one you want before you start. One edits a real photo of you into a comic panel, keeping your face recognisable. The other designs a brand new superhero character from scratch, with no photo involved. This guide covers both, plus a version for your pet.

Make your own comic panel

This starts from a real photo and turns it into comic book art while keeping you recognisable. It works best with a clear photo where your face and shoulders are visible.

prompt — 3 blanks
Turn this photo into a dramatic comic book panel. Keep my face and features recognisable.

Bold inked outlines, halftone shading, dynamic low angle, speech bubble saying "[LINE]", action lines and a bold caption box: "[CAPTION]". Vibrant colours, [BACKDROP, e.g. urban rooftop] backdrop.

This is the comic book panel prompt. Two things make the difference between a good result and a messy one:

  • Keep the speech bubble under 8 words. Longer lines tend to come out garbled or squeezed.
  • Pick one backdrop. A rooftop, a city street, a lab: one clear setting reads better than a mash-up of several.

Design an original superhero

This one doesn't touch a real photo at all. You're asking the AI to invent a character, which means you should invent the character too, rather than naming an existing one.

prompt — 4 blanks
Full-body concept art of an original superhero named "[NAME]" with the power of [POWER]. Suit design in [COLOURS] with a [SYMBOL] emblem, a dynamic heroic pose on a rooftop at dusk, cape flowing, dramatic comic-book lighting, clean line art with rich colours. Not based on any existing character.

This is the original superhero character prompt, and the closing line matters: naming a real superhero by name, even to say "but different", tends to pull the design toward that character's actual costume, which is also someone else's intellectual property. Describe your own powers, colours and emblem instead, and you'll get something that's actually original and safe to use anywhere, including on a t-shirt or a birthday card.

Once you like the character, ask for a turnaround: "show the same character from the front, side and back, same pose style, same colours." That gives you three consistent views instead of three different-looking characters.

Your pet, caped

If the human version feels like too much effort, the pet version is a quick, low-stakes way to try the same idea.

prompt — 3 blanks
Turn my [PET TYPE] in this photo into a superhero pet. Keep its face, fur colour and markings exactly the same.

Add a small cape in [COLOUR], a tiny mask, a dramatic pose on a city rooftop at sunset, wind in the fur, comic-book cinematic lighting, and the caption "[HERO NAME]" in bold lettering at the top.

This is the superhero pet prompt. Pick a hero name based on your pet's actual personality, such as "Captain Snooze" for a cat that sleeps all day, since the mismatch between the dramatic art and the silly name is usually what makes people share it.

A sidekick cast, if you want one

If one hero needs a set of friendly villains or sidekicks to pose with, generate them separately rather than cramming everyone into one prompt.

prompt — 1 blank
A set of six original cute monsters with different shapes, colours and expressions, [THEME, e.g. a spooky forest], chunky rounded bodies, big eyes, tiny horns and fluffy details, bold outlines, flat colours with soft shading, arranged in a grid on a plain background, friendly kids-book style.

The cute monster character set prompt gives you six at once, so you can pick the ones that fit your hero's story and generate those individually at a larger size if you want to use them again.

Keeping it clean and shareable

  • For the photo-edit version, always say "keep my face recognisable." Without it, some tools redesign the face along with everything else.
  • For the original character, always say "not based on any existing character." It protects you from copying a real costume by accident, and it's also just more fun to design your own.
  • Regenerate rather than overcorrect. If a speech bubble or caption comes out garbled, it's usually faster to shorten the text and try again than to ask the AI to "fix the spelling."

Where to go from here

If you liked the "turn yourself into something" idea, the AI action figure prompts guide covers the toy-figure version of the same trend. Browse more options in the photo to cartoon and anime prompts collection, or build your own with the prompt builder.

Quick checklist

  • Comic panel from a real photo: say "keep my face recognisable," and keep speech bubbles under 8 words.
  • Original superhero: describe your own powers and colours, and add "not based on any existing character."
  • Ask for a front/side/back turnaround once you like a character design.
  • Pet version: match the hero name to your pet's actual personality.
  • Keep one backdrop and one clear moment per image instead of combining several ideas.
