Write a professional resignation letter
This prompt writes a resignation letter. You give your name and role, your manager, the last working day and notice period, whether to include a reason and the handover you will do. It stays short and polite.
Write a resignation letter. My name and role: [NAME, ROLE] Manager: [NAME] Last working day: [DATE] (notice: [PERIOD]) Reason (optional to include): [REASON OR "leave out"] Handover I will do: [DETAILS] Keep it short, polite and firm. Thank them for something specific. Offer a handover. Do not badmouth anyone. Also write a two-line message I can say to my manager in person before sending it.
Tell your manager in person first, then send the letter.
Get a better result
A short, polite resignation letter with your last working day, a specific thank-you and an offer to hand over, plus two lines you can say to your manager in person before the letter goes out.
The letter explains your reasons for leaving in more detail than you meant to.
Fix: Type “leave out” in the reason box and the letter stays on dates and handover. A reason is optional in most resignation letters.
- The notice period or last day does not match your contract. Check the notice period in your offer letter first and copy it exactly. Ask the AI to repeat the dates back so you can compare them.
- The thank-you is vague, such as “thank you for the opportunity”. Name one real thing in your details, like a project, a mentor or a skill you learned. One specific line reads warmer than three general ones.
Ask for “the same letter as a five-line email with a subject line, to send after I have spoken to my manager”. Useful if your company handles resignations by email rather than on paper.
Shorten this to under 150 words. Keep the last working day, the thank-you and the handover line, and remove anything that explains my reasons.
