A calm story of about 500 words starring your child, with their interests, a place they love, a feeling such as bravery or sharing, a favourite toy, a repeating phrase to join in with and a sleepy ending.
The story gets exciting near the end instead of sleepy.
Fix: Add “the last 100 words slow down: shorter sentences, quiet sounds, the child yawning and falling asleep”, and ask for it with every rewrite, as the tip says.
- The lesson is spelled out in a sentence that sounds like a lecture. Ask for “show the lesson through what happens, never state it directly”.
- The repeating phrase is too long for a child to remember. Choose it yourself: “use the phrase ‘softly, softly, goodnight’ at the end of each part”. Short and rhythmic works best aloud.
Add “after each paragraph, repeat it in one short line in Hindi”. Have someone who speaks the language check those lines before you read them aloud.
Make it shorter and more specific to my situation. If you need more detail, ask me up to 3 questions first.
