Diwali wishes video AI prompts: short greeting clips for WhatsApp and Reels

Diwali falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Every year the morning brings hundreds of greeting videos on WhatsApp, and in 2026 more of them are made with AI. Free tools like Google Flow, the Gemini app's video feature, Higgsfield and Kling can now turn a sentence or a family photo into a short clip.

Most AI Diwali videos fail in the same ways: too much movement, melting faces, and garbled "Happy Diwali" text. The prompts below avoid all three.

The three rules

1. Short. 5 to 8 seconds. It loops nicely on status, and longer clips start to drift.
2. One slow movement. Flames flicker, petals fall, or the camera moves slowly forward. Not all three plus fireworks.
3. No text in the prompt. AI video still breaks letters. Add your wish in CapCut, InShot or the Instagram editor.

1. Glowing diyas (text-to-video)

Based on our Diwali diya lighting prompt:

2. Rangoli reveal

Vertical 9:16, 6 seconds. Top-down view of a colourful rangoli in pink, orange, yellow and white with small diyas around its edge. The camera slowly rises and rotates slightly, the diya flames flicker. Evening light. Realistic. No text, no people.

3. Your family photo comes alive

This is the one relatives love. Take a family photo from last Diwali into a photo-to-video tool with the Diwali photo motion prompt:

Animate this photo gently: everyone smiles naturally and looks at each other, the diyas in the background flicker, a few sparkles drift in the air. Keep every face exactly the same. Camera still. 5 seconds.

4. Fireworks over the city

Vertical 9:16, 7 seconds. Rooftop view of an Indian city at night on Diwali, colourful fireworks bursting in the sky, lights on every balcony, a few lanterns. Slow push forward. Realistic, cinematic. No text.

Based on the festival fireworks prompt. If you care about clean air and pets, a "diyas and lights only" version works just as well.

5. A greeting from your shop

Small shops can greet customers without a poster:

Vertical 9:16, 6 seconds. The front of a small [SHOP TYPE, e.g. sweet shop] decorated for Diwali with marigold garlands, string lights and diyas on the counter. Slow push toward the entrance, warm welcoming light. No people, no text, no logos.

Making it look finished

• Music: add a soft instrumental in the editor. Use the app's licensed music to avoid a copyright mute on Instagram.
• Text: one line, big and centred, on screen for at least 2 seconds.
• Export: 1080x1920. WhatsApp compresses videos, so a clean, simple scene survives better than a busy one.

Fixing common problems

Faces melt or change. Shorten to 5 seconds and add "minimal movement".

Diyas multiply or float. Say how many diyas and where: "five diyas in a row on the floor".

It looks like a cartoon. Add "realistic, cinematic, shot on a real camera".
