AI prompts for renting and moving house: viewing questions, repair requests and a moving checklist

Short answerAsk the AI for a list of questions to ask on every viewing, a firm and polite repair request with a deadline, and a moving timeline that counts back from your move date. Check tenancy rules for your own country or state before you rely on them.

Renting and moving are two of the most stressful and expensive things most people do. The paperwork is confusing, the rules differ between countries and states, and it is easy to forget small things that cost money later. AI will not replace a solicitor, a tenant's organisation or your lease, but it is very good at making you a list so that you do not forget anything.

1. Questions to ask before you sign

The apartment hunting questions prompt gives you a checklist for every viewing. Add your own details to make it sharper:

prompt — 4 blanks
I am viewing a [FLAT / HOUSE / APARTMENT] to rent in [AREA]. My budget is [AMOUNT] a month and I need [BEDROOMS, PETS, PARKING, COMMUTE].
Give me 25 questions to ask the landlord or agent, grouped into money (deposit, fees, bills), the property (damp, heating, noise), the contract (length, break clause, renewals) and the neighbourhood. Mark the five that matter most.

Take photos at the viewing, and note anything that looks damaged. Those notes protect your deposit later.

Read the whole contract before you sign, and ask about anything you do not understand. A free tenants' advice service is a better source than a chatbot for what your rights actually are.

2. Asking for repairs

If something breaks, a clear written request works better than a phone call. The landlord repair request prompt writes a calm message with the problem, when it started and the date you would like it fixed:

prompt — 4 blanks
Write a polite but firm email to my landlord about [PROBLEM], which began on [DATE]. I first mentioned it on [DATE]. Ask for it to be fixed by [DATE], offer access times and ask them to confirm by reply. Keep it under 150 words.

Keep a copy of every message and photos of the problem. If the issue is serious, such as no heating in winter or a safety risk, contact your local tenant advice service or council about your rights.

3. A moving timeline

A move goes smoothly when the work starts weeks early. The moving checklist prompt builds a timeline that counts back from your move date: giving notice, booking movers, redirecting post, updating addresses and what to pack last.

prompt — 3 blanks
I move on [DATE]. I live in a [SIZE] home and I am moving [DISTANCE]. Make a timeline for the 8 weeks before, the week of, and the first week after. Include who to tell about my new address and what to photograph when I leave.

4. Settling in

After the move, the household chore schedule prompt helps flatmates or a family share jobs fairly from the first week. The home maintenance calendar prompt builds a yearly list for things like smoke-alarm checks, boiler or heating servicing and cleaning gutters. Check which jobs are your responsibility under your tenancy.

5. Count the real cost

Moving costs more than rent: deposits, fees, removals, new furniture and overlapping bills. Our guide to AI prompts for budgeting helps you add them up before you commit.
