What you will get

A patient, calm clip of a three-toed sloth slowly climbing a mossy tree in a misty rainforest, reaching for a branch with deliberate movements, drops falling from leaves and soft green light, with birds and insects in the background.

Why it works

Sloths are fascinating because they move so slowly, so the prompt asks for deliberate movements and a patient camera that does not rush them. A misty rainforest with moss and falling drops gives a soft green setting, and background birds and insects make it feel alive. As the tip says, gentle light and a calm background bring out the slow, peaceful mood people watch these clips for.

Common mistake

The sloth moves at normal animal speed.

Fix: Ask for very slow, deliberate movements, one reach taking several seconds. Slowness is the whole point of the clip.

Also watch for
  • The claws and face look wrong. Ask for long curved claws hooking the branch and the dark eye stripes and gentle smile-like face of a three-toed sloth.
  • The camera moves more than the sloth. Ask for a patient, almost still camera with only a slight drift.
Try a variation: mother and baby

Add a baby sloth clinging to its mother’s chest as she climbs, peeking out at the camera.

Still not right? Add this and run it again

one slow reach taking several seconds, long curved claws hooking the branch, dark eye stripes on the face, an almost still camera
