What you will get

A herd of your chosen animals crossing a shallow river in warm backlight, dust in the air, a calf following its mother, acacia silhouettes and birds, filmed alongside with a long lens look.

Why it works

Safari footage relies on golden light and real behaviour. A river crossing with dust in the air and a calf keeping close to its mother tells a small story of a family on the move. Tracking alongside with a long lens look copies how wildlife crews really film, from a vehicle at a distance, and acacia silhouettes and birds place it clearly on the savanna. Gentle natural sound finishes the documentary feel.

Common mistake

The animals move in an unnatural way.

Fix: As the tip says, name the behaviour, such as “walking slowly in single file through knee-deep water”, not just the animal.

Also watch for
  • The calf is missing or wanders off alone. Ask for the calf close beside its mother, half hidden by her legs, which is how young elephants cross.
  • The light is flat and the dust does not glow. Ask for strong, low backlight from the setting sun with dust hanging in the air and rim light on the animals’ backs.
Try a variation: waterhole

Ask for a waterhole scene with zebra and giraffe drinking at dusk.

Still not right? Add this and run it again
