What you will get

A joyful slow motion clip of friends throwing bursts of pink, yellow or blue gulal into the air at Holi, colour clouds blooming, laughing faces smeared with colour, water balloons bursting, bright sun and festive drums.

Why it works

Holi is about colour and joy, and ultra slow motion turns each throw into a cloud you can watch bloom. Bright sun is the key ingredient, because powder only glows when light passes through it. Laughter and water balloons keep the clip human and playful rather than a colour effect.

Common mistake

The colour clouds look dull and muddy.

Fix: Ask for bright direct sunlight, as the tip says, with the sun behind the powder so the clouds glow.

Also watch for
  • Faces melt or change in slow motion. Keep faces at a medium distance and put the close-ups on hands and powder bursts instead.
  • All the colours mix into brown. Pick two or three colours and ask for each throw to be one colour, so the bursts stay clean.
Try a variation: make it a family Holi

Ask for grandparents gently putting colour on a child’s cheeks in a courtyard, softer and slower, with flower petals in the air.

Still not right? Add this and run it again

bright direct sunlight behind the powder, one colour per throw, faces at medium distance, close-ups on hands and bursts
