Journal prompts for stressful weeks
This prompt gives twenty journaling prompts for a stressful situation you name. If you are struggling, please also talk to someone you trust or a professional.
Give me 20 journaling prompts to help me through a stressful period of [SITUATION]. Group them into: getting thoughts out, finding what I can control, self-kindness, small actions and looking ahead. Add a short three-question check-in I can do daily. These prompts are for reflection only and are not a substitute for professional support.
Write for five minutes without editing; the point is to clear your head, not to write well.

Twenty journaling prompts in five groups, from getting thoughts out to looking ahead, plus a three-question daily check-in. It is meant for reflection, not as a replacement for professional help.
The prompts feel generic and do not fit your situation.
Fix: Describe the situation in a sentence or two, without private names, and say what is hardest right now, such as “waiting for a job decision”.
- Twenty prompts feel like homework. Pick one group, or ask for “five prompts only, for tonight, each answerable in a few lines”. Use the rest on other days.
- You use it in place of talking to someone when things are heavy. If stress is affecting sleep, health or safety, talk to a doctor, counsellor or someone you trust. Journaling works alongside support, not instead of it.
Ask for “a two-line morning prompt and a two-line evening prompt based on the check-in”, so the habit takes about three minutes a day.
Keep the five groups, but make each prompt shorter and more specific to my situation. Add one gentle prompt for nights when I cannot sleep.
