Resume summary and career objective for freshers: 15 examples to copy and edit

Published

Short answerA fresher summary is two or three lines: what you studied, two or three skills you can prove, and the role you want. Write it last, and keep every claim something you can explain in an interview.

The summary (also called a profile or career objective) sits at the top of your resume and is often the only part a recruiter reads before deciding to keep going. For a fresher it is the place to show direction. It is not the place for big adjectives.

A three-part formula

Write one sentence for each, then join them:

  1. Who you are: your course and year, or your trade ("Final-year B.Tech ECE student", "ITI-qualified fitter").
  2. What you can do: two or three skills or tools you can prove ("Python, SQL and Power BI", "lathe and milling machine work").
  3. What you want: the role, ideally using the job title in the advert ("a junior data analyst role").
Formula
[Course / trade and year] with [2–3 skills or tools] and [one small proof]. Looking for [job title] where I can [learn / contribute something specific].

Summary or career objective?

Both are the same thing for a fresher. "Career objective" is the older name and tends to be about what you want. A "summary" says what you bring. Use the second style: it is more useful to the reader. Keep it to 30 to 60 words.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Empty phrases, such as "hard-working", "passionate" and "team player", with nothing to back them up. Replace them with a fact.
  • "Seeking a challenging position in a reputed organisation" could be written by anyone about any job. Use the real job title.
  • Skills you cannot show. If you cannot do it in an interview, leave it out.
  • Writing it first. Fill in education, projects and skills, then write the summary from them.
  • Going over 60 words. Recruiters skim. Cut.

Tailor it in two minutes

Change the last sentence for each job. Take the job title from the advert ("junior data analyst", "accounts executive") and one or two skills from the list of requirements. Use the job match box in the resume builder to see which keywords from the advert are missing from your resume.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good resume summary for a fresher with no experience?

Name your course, two or three skills you can prove, and the role you want, in two or three lines. Mention any project, internship, society role or part-time work, even a small one.

How long should a fresher resume summary be?

Two to three lines, about 30 to 60 words. Anything longer is skimmed or skipped.

Should a fresher write an objective or a summary?

Write a short summary that says what you can do and what role you want. It covers both and reads better than a plain objective.

Can I use the same summary for every job?

Keep one base version, then change the last line and one or two skills to match each job post. It takes a couple of minutes and makes a clear difference.
