How to make a resume on your mobile phone: free, with PDF download

Published

Short answerOpen the free resume builder in Chrome or Safari on your phone, fill the short form, tap Preview, then Download PDF. No app, no sign-up, no watermark. Use Share to send it on WhatsApp or email.

You do not need a laptop or an app to make a resume. A phone with a browser is enough. This is how to do it in about 10 minutes, for free.

Before you start

Keep these ready in your notes:

  • Your full name, phone, email and city.
  • Your course, college, year and CGPA or percentage.
  • One to three projects, internships or activities, with what you did.
  • A short list of skills (tools, languages).

If you already have an old resume as a PDF or Word file, you can upload it and the builder will sort it into the form for you. It is read on your phone and is never uploaded to a server.

Step by step

  1. Open the builder in Chrome or Safari: usepromptup.com/tools/resume-builder. Do not open it from inside WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook; those in-app browsers often block downloads.
  2. Upload your old resume (optional) or tap Details to start fresh.
  3. Fill the Details form one section at a time: your details, summary, education, experience, projects, skills and more. Tap Next after each one. Anything you leave blank stays off the page.
  4. Tap Design to pick a template and colour. For a first resume, Fresher puts education first. See all eight templates.
  5. Tap Check. The builder gives a score out of 100 and a short list of fixes, such as missing contact details or bullets without numbers. Tap Open it on any fix to jump to the place.
  6. Paste a job post into the job match box if you are applying for a specific role, and add any missing skills that you really have.
  7. Tap Preview. Look at the page. Aim for one page.
  8. Tap Download PDF. Your phone saves it to Downloads (on iPhone: Share, then Save to Files). Word (.docx) is right below if you need it.
  9. Tap Share to send the PDF to WhatsApp, Gmail or Drive through your phone's own share sheet.

Your draft is saved on your phone while the box "Save draft on this device" is ticked, so you can come back later and carry on.

Tips for typing on a phone

  • Write bullets in your Notes app first, then paste them in. It is easier to edit there.
  • Use the keyboard's Next key to move between fields.
  • Turn the phone sideways to preview the page at a bigger size.
  • If a section does not apply to you (no job yet), leave it empty. Empty sections do not print.

If the download does not start

  • Open the page in Chrome (Android) or Safari (iPhone), not an in-app browser.
  • Check storage: a full phone cannot save the file.
  • On iPhone, use Share, then Save to Files.
  • Try the Share button and send it to yourself on WhatsApp or email.

Checking the file

Open the PDF from your Downloads. Make sure:

  1. Your name and phone are correct.
  2. The page is not cut off.
  3. Nothing shows as a question mark. If your name uses Hindi or another script, the PDF cannot print it, so use the Word file for that.
  4. The file name is something like Priya_Sharma_Resume.pdf.

Is it free? What is the catch?

There is no catch. The PromptUp resume builder is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no payment to download. Your resume is made inside your phone's browser and is not sent anywhere. If it helps you, an optional tip is welcome, but nothing is locked behind it. More about what "free" should mean in free resume builder without payment.

Make your resume free

No sign-up, no watermark. Eight templates, a free ATS check, and PDF and Word downloads. Made on your device.
